30 Days of Writing: Day 7 & 8 & 9
I've been way behind on the writing meme (three days!) but I'm finally catching up. These are all from my OUaT "Regina raises Emma" universe.
formal; Emma (with appearances by Hatter, Regina and March); Once Upon A Time
Emma hates the dresses that her mother makes her wear. While they aren’t the overly fluffy, lacy, obnoxious outfits that most of Wonderland’s diamonds wears, they’re still stiff and tight and… dressy.
She would much rather be wearing her leathers, racing through the woods and the dirt. Nature was a far more comfortable place for her than court functions.
Her mother only shakes her head when Emma comes running back through the castle, already late as she hurries through the halls, almost knocking over March in her haste. Regina doesn’t say anything, but it’s close. March just blinks and wonders off into the shadows.
The maids look less than amused when they see her. She knows what’s coming next but it never gets any better.
They work their magic and Emma is scrubbed and brushed and painted and shoved into some horrible itchy blood red dress they insist does wonders for her complexion.
“Another day, another dance,” Hatter says to her from his place at the entry way to the hall as she stomps up. He looks her up and down and smirks. “Nice dress.”
“Shut up,” she mutters, adjusting the bodice so it’s slightly less annoying. She paints a smile on her face and steps into the limelight, prepared to make her mother proud.
companion; March & Hatter; Once Upon A Time
March watches Hatter watching the children. Grace is following the five year old Emma around the courtyard as she chases the butteryflies, getting close but always having them slip out of her grasp.
He can’t help but take in the way his friend has changed. He’s looser, freer, but at the same time he’s shutdown in a way he wasn’t before. Loosing his Alice cost him more than he’ll admit.
Honestly, March never saw the appeal. She was nice enough, he supposed, and he liked her but from the moment the two met Hatter went from his to hers. But now she’s gone and he’s his Hatter again. Well, his and Grace’s.
March likes Grace. He can see Hatter in her and she looks up at him like he can do no wrong.
Hatter worries about her though, about what she’s been learning here. March can tell that he’s afraid she’ll pick up on some of the more undesirable traits of murder and mayhem.
He wouldn’t be surprised if she did; it’s in the blood. Mad March, Mad Hatter. They’re all mad here.
move; Emma; Once Upon A Time
Emma has to admit that Wonderland gets boring after a while. All the Cards are predictable, falling into their prescribed roles. The Cardless, like her mother’s assistant the White Rabbit or the Caterpillar who harasses people at the Looking Glass Walls, were slightly more interesting but they were always off doing things. Even the flamingos that run wild in her grandmother’s old overgrown croquet garden are less amusing after she’s made friends with them.
She’s sure that she has seen all of Wonderland already, done everything she can do. That’s why when Hatter and March offer watch her on a trip to the O.Z. she jumps at the chance.
It wasn’t her fault that she got lost.
